“Have you ever used the terms “working poor,” “living paycheck-to-paycheck,” “barely making ends meet” or “needy”? If so, you are talking about ALICE. ALICE is a United Way acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. “Employed” is the critical word. The ALICE population is above the federal poverty level yet, despite working, still has a difficult time affording the basics of housing, food, health care, child care and transportation.
